Smoother Suburban Streets Program
2017 – 18
Brisbane City Council’s 2017-18 smoother suburban streets program has roads and transport at its heart. The $1 billion 2017-18 spend will be put towards 39 major road projects, 250 minor projects and the resurfacing of 650 streets.
Stanley Road Construction was the chosen contractor to supply and lay the asphalt for Works Packages B & C which included major road construction, intersection upgrades and amendments to local roads.
Description of works for External Asphalt Resurfacing Package B:
Road rehabilitation and associated works – excavations, sprayed bituminous surfacing, placement of dense graded asphalt, sub-soil drainage & minor civils.

• Cold planning and disposal of profilings up to a depth of 30mm – 100mm
• Special excavations, all materials, excavate an additional 200mm as directed.
• Backfill special excavation with rock fill 200mm thick working platform of 75 minus rock.
• Supply and installation of geotextile, BCC Type 3 combined with Tensar TX160.
• Seal, class C170 (maximum 5% cutter), including supply of binder and cutter.
• Spreading cover aggregate 10mm.
• Tack coat [0.2] litres/m2, residual bitumen.
• Sprayed bituminous surfacing, including supply of binder (C170 spray rate nominal 1.0L/m2), including supply of additives (maximum 5% cutter), including supply of cover aggregate (10mm@nominal 130m2/m3).
Dense graded asphalt corrector layer, Type 2 (10mm mix) corrector, overlay & failure repairs
• Dense graded asphalt, Type 2 (10mm mix) min layer 30mm
• Dense graded asphalt, Type 4 (35mm mix) min layer 100mm
• Subsoil drains, Type A, 100mm in accordance with BCC standard drawing BSD-2041.
• Mitre drains, Type C, in accordance with BCC standard drawing BSD-2041.
• Raise or lower existing manhole in accordance with BCC standard drawing BSD-8021, BSD-8023, BSD-8024 and BSD-8025.
